Atmosphere
As we are nearly nine months removed from BHP’s last football game, it is time to broach a topic that may be a touchy one. The atmosphere at BHP home football games is very average. There I said it, nothing special, mediocre, FORGETTABLE. You might think this is just during non-conference games that do not have any true implications. I would disagree. This post was planned to be written right after the round 1 playoff loss last season. Even for a playoff game, the atmosphere was at best average. I will offer suggested improvements and reasons how they can add to BHP’s gameday atmosphere and after that, we will throw out some really off the wall ideas for fun. I am taking no school policies into consideration, mainly because I do not know them. Also, this is purely for fun and my own opinions.
2018 Season Wrap Up
Just as the end comes sooner and more abruptly than expected with life and apple pie, so did the 2018 football season for the Bears. Because of the early exit, writing this post is harder than others. Not because of the loss, but because of how the outcome occurred. We want to celebrate a good season and a region championship, but we also want to acknowledge the disappointing ending to the season. We will try our best to walk that line as we talk about the season as a whole, but also recap the final game.
Bear Tracks Round 1 | 2018
BHP knew for the last 3 weeks of the season that they would be in the playoffs, but with each win they improved their seed position. With the exclamation mark the Bears put on the end of the regular season, they became the first overall seed and ensured home field games throughout the playoffs.
Bear Tracks Week 11 | 2018
The reason the team and all Bear fans can celebrate is because of the dominating performance of BHP against Daniel in the region championship finale. Daniel came into the game undefeated while BHP had 2 losses on the year. BHP was able to take a 14-0 lead, but Daniel scored late in the 2nd quarter to cut BHP’s halftime lead to 7. Both teams scored in the third to make the score 21-14 going into the 4th quarter. In the 4th quarter BHP exploded for 21 points and sealed the game to take the 2018 Region 1-AAAA championship.
Bear Tracks Week 10 | 2018
With region championship hopes on the line, BHP answered the call and produced their most convincing win of the season. Although BHP looked rattled on the opening Wren drive, the Bears settled down and thoroughly destroyed Wren in a 41-24 rout. BHP showed why the expectations for this team were so high coming into the season. With as well as the Bears played Friday they will need to be even better this Friday as they face Daniel in a match up that will decide the region championship and home field throughout the playoffs. BHP will look to derail Daniel’s undefeated season and claim their 3rd region championship under Coach Blackston.

BHP headed up into the foothill mountains to face Pickens looking for their second region win of the season last week. With performances that landed one player in the record books and one player 8 catches shy of an all time BHP record, BHP was able to open an early lead and hold off a late push from Pickens and brought back the win, 27-10. With the win over Pickens, BHP turned their focus to Wren. BHP has played Wren 4th most of any other school, 34 times, since BHP became a school in 1966. Few of those 34 matchups held as much at stake as this one. Both teams look to cement their hold on 2nd place in the region and a home playoff game, while BHP will look to keep their region championship goal alive.

Bear Tracks Week 7 | 2018
Here at Bear Stats we try our best to limit pointing out the negatives when it comes the the Bears as a team and more importantly the individuals. We will continue to avoid referencing individual players based on play that is detrimental to the team. However, we cannot overlook the play of the team as a whole. The performance Friday night was the most embarrassing loss in the last decade for the Bears. The lack of intensity, no visible leadership on either side of the ball, inability to be creative, and just a non-existent killer instinct led the Bears to lose their opening region game. We are 6 games into the season and these traits have been evident all season, but came to the forefront and culminated in a loss to Walhalla on Friday night. All of this makes this team so frustrating to watch.
Bear Tracks Week 6 | 2018
BHP finished a rocky non-conference schedule with a win over Seneca last Friday night. The Bears were able to make it through a tough slate of games with only one blemish on their record. However, the actual play on the field still looks like a work in progress. But even with the inconsistencies, BHP has seemed to find a new high power offensive identity to lean on. BHP will look to draw on the tough game experiences they have banked so far and turn those into positive gains on the field for the rest of the season.
Bear Tracks Week 5 | 2018
BHP was able to answer the bell a night early to improve their record to 3-1. The Bears looked lackluster at times and unstoppable at others, which could be the result of having one less practice. However, the Bear’s passing game was once again the star, putting up impressive numbers, nearly 300 yards and 3 touchdowns. Even with the outstanding offensive performance BHP didn’t dominate the outcome, as Pendleton fought hard and in the end and cut the Bears’ victory margin to only two touchdowns. BHP will look to expand on the offensive numbers this week as they travel to Seneca. The last time these two teams met was in 2015 and Seneca beat BHP handedly 46-27 and went on to win the region title. BHP will look to repay some of that this week.
